DU Introduces Online Foreign Language Courses
The Delhi University Executive Council has approved new online foreign language courses for students at the School of Open Learning (SOL). These courses will be available through various departments specializing in different language groups.
Languages Offered
The Department of Germanic and Romance Studies will provide courses in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Italian. The Department of East Asia Studies will offer Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Additionally, the Department of Slavonic and Finno Ugrian Studies will offer Russian.
Course Delivery and Timeline
Payal Mago, director of the campus of open learning and chairperson of the SOL governing body, stated that these foreign language courses already exist in traditional formats. The Executive Council has now approved their delivery in an online format. The university aims to start these courses by the 2026-27 academic session or possibly earlier.
Classes will be conducted fully online, allowing students to learn at their own pace. They will have access to video lectures and assignments through an online platform, making it easier to study from anywhere and at flexible times.
